Divorce Stories
Divorce stories come in all types of experiences. My divorce story comes after three years of marriage to a woman I really wasn't sure that I loved. It all started back when I was in college. If memory serves me it was a history course when I first laid eyes on my future wife. What attracted me to here is that she was brave enough to approach me. We started talking and we found that we liked each. So we started dating. We dated for about six months before we decided to get married. Yea I know, six months is not really a long time to really get to know someone, but we said what the hell and got married. The first year was good, we were getting along and going out to dinner often. We even bought a pet fish for us to share. We invited friends over and had drinks almost every weekend. Our marriage was good.
Well, some divorce stories have their ups and downs. In my case my divorce story had a very down ending. Half way through our marriage things started to change, slowly but surely. She started to become controlling and wanted everything done her way. She become really rude and inconsiderate. Turns out she was an alcoholic and really could not control her drinking. She did not want to get any help and would scream at me every time I would mentioned it. She wanted to go out with her friends more than she would with her husband, (her husband being me) lol. She would also travel to different states with her friends and left her husband at home, and we would argue non stop over petty things. At one point in our marriage I did suspect her of cheating but really did not have any proof. But I could not let that feeling ruin my life. It was by accident that I found her with someone else. I was hurt but that feeling past and I started seeing someone myself.
After we had a long discussion, we both came to the conclusion that it would be best if we went our separate ways. Divorce is never easy especially if you do not know the divorce laws in your state. We really did not own a lot or had a home together so in our case the divorce was less difficult. All we had to do was find a good lawyer and pay them for their time. The divorce process did take some time. About a month or two and the divorce was final. There was so much paper work that you have to sign and at the time we were not living together, so we would always have to meet some where. That is the reason why it took so long. In hindsight, it was easier to get married than it was to divorce.
The cost of the divorce was not all that bad. We ended up paying about $500 for a divorce lawyer. At first I thought I would pay a substantial amount of money, but that was not the case. All it took was to research a good lawyer who was reasonable with price. I will provide a link below so that you can also have the same opportunity as I did when looking for a good lawyer.
When getting a divorce I found using a lawyer was the best way to get through the process. Sure you can try and do it yourself, but that will take a great deal of research and home work. Divorce lawyers are great to use because they have the knowledge and know how to get the job done. They will also do all the work for you (smile). So if you are going through a divorce, I would recommend finding a good divorce lawyer.
So, there you have it. I have summed up my divorce story in a nutshell. Of course there is a lot more, but it would take up ten of these pages just to tell you the full story. Going through a divorce is something I think people would wish to avoid. After all, the person you marry should be the person you are going to spend the rest of your life with.
If you have any divorce stories that you would like to share you are more than welcome type your story in the space below. I will only ask that you keep the divorce story clean and not to use slander.
Thank you for reading my story.
